Radiology & Ultrasound
With a digital x-ray and ultrasound onsite, we can diagnose your pet’s conditions and share results with specialist providers when necessary.
Radiology
Radiology is the medical discipline that uses diagnostic imaging (radiography, ultrasound, computerized tomography, nuclear medicine, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to diagnose and treat diseases within the bodies of animals.
Radiography is the most common imaging procedure used in veterinary practices. The x-ray images (radiographs) produced from this modality are identical to those produced in human hospitals, but are specialized for dogs, cats, and other animals. X-rays work well for imaging bone, foreign objects, and abnormalities of the abdomen and thorax.
Ultrasonography
Ultrasonography is the second most common imaging modality in veterinary medicine. Ultrasound is much better at imaging the soft tissues within the body compared to x-rays. Ultrasounds are commonly used to visualize the abdominal organs and heart in small animal veterinary practice.

Diagnostic imaging is a key component of evaluating a patient. Imaging helps the veterinary team to:
- Achieve a diagnosis
- Determine the location or extent of disease
- Determine the next diagnostic procedure needed for a patient
- Establish a prognosis for specific diseases
- Assess progression or remission (serial radiology to follow course of disease)
